9th Grade Algebra

Does my ninth grader have to take Algebra or can he take different maths as long as he gets his 4 units?

If your child has taken Pre-Algebra or an equivalent, I would highly recommend that he take Algebra 1.

In order for any student to attend college (Four year or community college) they must pass a math test which includes problems from Algebra 1.

Even if you don't think that college is in your child's future, Algebra is used in many professions and in every day life.

In most public schools Algebra 1 is a graduation requirement. After Algebra 1 and Geometry, some students take Business Math instead of the higher level math courses.

Personally, I would highly recommend that your child take Algebra.
