Counting Principle
by: Karin

Since you are dealing with the probability of tossing a coin, you have to think about the number of outcomes. A coin has a head side and a tail side. So, there are two outcomes. The probability of tossing a tail is 1 chance out of 2.

You write this as a fraction: 1/2.

Since you want to find out the probability of rolling a tail all five times, you multiply 1/2 five times.

1/2 * 1/2* 1/2 *1/2 *1/2 = 1/32

1/32 chance or .03125 which is a 3.125% chance.

Hope this helps,
Karin
