Defining Rate of Change
by: Karin

Hi Celia,

I'm not sure what you mean by algebraic term, but when you find the rate of change, you are actually finding the slope.

You typically use the slope formula:

change in y/ change in x.

It's described in more detail on the following web page:

http://www.algebra-class.com/rate-of-change.html

This page will show how to find the slope given two points and give a few examples of rate of change word problems.

I hope this helps,
Karin
