Evaluating Functions
by: Karin

For the function h(x) = 2x-4, we are asked to evaluate h(-5).

Instead of h(x), you see h(-5). Notice how -5 takes the place of x in h(x).

That means that we need to substitute -5 for x into the function: h(x) = 2x-4

So,
h(-5) = 2(-5) -4 Substitute -5 for x.

h(-5) = -10-4
h(-5) = -14

Hope this helps,
Karin
