Factoring Polynomials

I need to know if these 2 answers are the same. The original problem is: 4x-16xcubed=

answer: 4x(1-4xsquared)


answer: 4x(1-4cubed)

If they are not the same, please walk me thru it. Thanks so much!!!

Hi Lori,

No, these two answers are not the same.

It looks like you are factoring this polynomial by using the Greatest Common Factor.

4x - 16x^3

The greatest common factor is 4x. Therefore, if you factor out 4x, you will get:

4x(1 - 4x^2)

Therefore, your first answer is correct.
