Find the x-intercept for the graph of the following equation.
18x + 12y = 72

The x-intercept is the point where the line crosses the x-axis. Therefore, this is a point on the x-axis.

All points that are on the x-axis have a y coordinate of 0. OR y = 0

If you don't understand this, read the following web page:

Scroll down until you see a graph of examples of x-intercepts.

Since we know that y = 0, we can substitute 0 for y into the equation and solve for x. This will be the x-intercept.

18x + 12y = 72
18x + 12(0) = 72
18x = 72
18x/18 = 72/18
x = 4

The point is (4,0) and the x-intercept is 4.
