In order to graph this equation, you must first combine like terms. x + 3x are like terms because they both contain the variable x.

y= x + 3x - 4
y = 4x - 4 x + 3x = 4x

Now you have an equation written in slope intercept form. Your slope is 4 and the y-intercept is -4.
Plot your y-intercept and count a rise of 4 and run of 1 to find your next point.
