Simplifying an Algebraic Expression
by: Karin

In order to simplify this expression, we must first use the distributive property.

x + 7 + 4(x - 5)

x + 7 + 4x - 20

Now we can rewrite the expression with like terms together.

x + 4x + 7 - 20

Now, combine like terms.

5x - 13

This is the simplified answer.

Hope this helps,
Karin
