Solving Linear Equations
by: Karin

Hi Said,

It looks like in your initial step to solve, you forgot to distribute completely through the parenthesis and you forgot the -4. So, take a look...

Step 1: Distribute

6(r+2) -4 = -10

6r + 12 - 4 = -10 Don't forget that 6 * 2 = 12

Step 2: Simplify

6r + 8 = -10 12 - 4 = 8

Step 3: Subtract 8 from both sides

6r + 8 - 8 = -10 - 8

Step 4: Simplify

6r = -18 -10 - 8 = -18

Step 5: Divide by 6 on both sides

6r/6 = -18/6

Step 6: Simplify

r = -3

This is your final answer: r = -3

Step 7: Check

6(-3+2) - 4 = -10

6(-1) - 4 = -10

-6 - 4 = -10
-10 = -10

The answer is correct.

Hope this helps!

Karin
