Standard Form for Quadratic Equations
by: Karin

Hi Vickie,

Your question was not very specific, so I am going to assume that you would like to know how to write this equation in standard form.

Standard form for quadratic equations is as follows:
Ax + by + C = 0

We always set the equation equal to 0, because this allows us to factor the equation or use the quadratic formula.

Therefore, you would need to subtract four from both sides in order to set your equation equal to 0.
2x^2 - x = 4

2x^2 - x - 4 = 4-4

2x^2 - x - 4 = 0 is now written in standard form.

Hope this helps!

Karin
