I need to know how to make 20 minutes into a fraction. I know its 1/3 but how would I do it if I get a word question where I might have to change 40 minutes into a fraction?

Yes, 50 minutes is 5/6, if you're asking, "What's 50 minutes of an hour?".

50/60 simplifies to 5/6.

When you are converting time, you need to think of the "whole". For example, when you are talking about minutes, the whole might be an hour (or 60 minutes). So, 20 minutes is 1/3 of an hour.

When writing a fraction, think of is/of. The "of" is always your "whole".

20/60 = 1/3

So, if you wanted to find 40 minutes of an hour, then you would write:

40/60 which simplifies to 2/3.
