Negative exponents

Chrissy,

I'm sorry to respond to this so late, I didn't realize that this submission had come through.

15^-4 looks difficult, but we can make the exponent positive to make this problem a lot easier.

When you raise a number to a negative power, you want to take the reciprocal of the number and this will make the exponent positive.

15^-4 = (1/15)^4.

Take the reciprocal of 15 (1/15) and then raise this to the fourth power.

So, (1/15)^4 is 1/50625.

Take a look at the lesson on the following webpage:

I hope this helps,
Karin
